If you live in Catonsville, you have probably been stopped at the traffic light at Ingleside-Bloomsbury Avenues and Frederick Road and asked for a donation for the parade and fireworks during the month of June. An energetic group of volunteers don their red, white and blue shirts, grab buckets and stacks of program books and take to the streets. They ask each motorist at this intersection to donate the spare change in their car or better yet, to grab a few dollars from their wallet, and donate to the community’s July 4th celebration.
These fundraisers are an important source of revenue for the committee. On average, we raise $1,000 per collection. We generally hold two collection days on Saturday mornings in June and try to reach our target market, busy Catonsville residents running errands, who tell us they appreciate the easy opportunity to give. In return, donors receive the official program book, a huge smile (see picture of Steve Head above) and the appreciation of the July 4th committee.
These fundraising collections are sponsored by Catonsville Men’s Civic Association (CMCA) and the Catonsville Ravens Club who provide the volunteers and the enthusiasm for making these roadblock fundraisers a success.
We have scheduled two roadblocks in 2012. Please be generous, and we thank you in advance for your support.
