Parade & Fireworks Traffic Tips

Traffic can be a real hassle in Catonsville on July 4th. The parade and fireworks can cause delays, detours and a traffic headache. Knowing when roads will be closed and planning alternate routes will make your travel much easier.

Road Closures and Detour Map for Residents

Parade starts at 3 p.m. Altered traffic patterns from 2–6 p.m.

  • Montrose, Ivanhoe, Idlewylde and Ridge will be closed at 1 p.m. There is no parking along these roads after 1 p.m.
  • To accommodate the parade, Frederick Road will be closed between Delrey and Dutton beginning at 2 p.m.
  • Rolling Road will be open during the parade, but all traffic will be detoured to side streets, so you can expect backups. If you are traveling north or south, consider using the beltway from Wilkens to Edmondson instead of Rolling Road.

Fireworks start at approximately 9 p.m. Altered traffic patterns from 5–11 p.m.

  • Walk to the fireworks if possible.
  • There will be plenty of detours, road closures and police officers directing traffic. Please follow their directions.
  • Valley Road and Hilltop Road will be closed at 5 p.m.
  • Recommend parking at UMBC and CCBC.
  • After the fireworks, all traffic leaving CCBC will be directed to the right and sent down to RT 195.
  • Remember, there are thousands of cars jamming every road and side street. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts. Plan to be in a backup for at least ½ hours after the fireworks.
